The
Willamette Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA),
Salem, Oregon
The Willamette Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA)
invites you to join our local chapter and get involved with fellow MOAA
Officers and other veterans group members in a variety of activities and
events. Located in Salem, Oregon’s Capitol City, the Chapter is also
uniquely positioned to weigh in on Oregon Department of Veterans
Affairs-supported state and federal veterans issues and legislation. In
fact, the Oregon MOAA Council of Chapters recently presented our Chapter
Legislative Representative, LTC Mac MacDonald, USMC (Ret), with the Kay
Wynn Memorial Service Award for 2008-2009, for his tireless and
effective work as an unpaid lobbyist at the state legislature on behalf
of Oregon veterans.
The Willamette Chapter began as an affiliate of The Retired Officers
Association (TROA) on 10 March 1971. At startup there were 116 members.
Today the Chapter, still going strong as an affiliate of the Military
Officers Association of America (MOAA), is comprised of 124 Regular
members: Former, Active, Reserve and Retired commissioned officers, and
31 auxiliary members: widows of former members.
Through Chapter membership, you can connect with Chapter and other
veterans group members who are making a difference in their communities
through many kinds of activities, such as:
• shaping and supporting legislation to benefit veterans through
organized correspondence drives, and events such as “Veterans Musters”
at the state Capitol at the start of each biennial session,
• attending monthly Chapter meetings -- “Officers Calls” -- with
scheduled speakers on topics that matter to veterans,
• funding local JROTC scholarships,
• supporting North Salem High School’s JROTC Color Guard,
• participating in the Salem Toys for Kids/Salvation Army Christmas toy
drive, and
• participating in the semi-annual Oregon MOAA Council of Chapters
Convention, and the Oregon National Guard Association’s annual
Conference.
We also support the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs (ODVA) through
other activities as collecting in-kind donations for the Oregon
Veteran’s Home in The Dalles, and disseminating ODVA free-admission
vouchers during Vets Weekend at the State Fair.
The Willamette Chapter is a dynamic organization, with opportunities for
friendship and fellowship with current and retired/separated Military
Officers. Dues are very reasonable: Regular members: 1 year, $10; 2
years, $18, 3 years, $25. Auxiliary (widowed) members: 1 year, $4; 2
years, $6; 3 years, $8.
We hope that you will find our activities and programs of interest to
you. We also invite spouses to become actively involved. Look us up. Our
mailing address is: Willamette Chapter, MOAA, P.O. Box 2004, Salem, OR
97308-2004. Come join us at one of our chapter meetings, activities, or
social events!
