c. Personal Affairs, Gary Zwicker was nominated to be the Council’s Personal Affairs representative. Approved by the board.
d. Membership Recruiting, Requested that national send someone to our State Convention in Bend to address membership recruiting. The other area that was requested to be covered was how to get volunteers to assume leadership rolls in the chapters. How do we get the Guard and Reserve members to join our chapters? Chuck will talk to GEN Rees to see what he could do within the Oregon National Guard to encourage Guard Officers to join MOAA and a local chapter.
e. State Conference, time and place, Host Chapter is Central Oregon, Ron Fox is the Point of Contact (POC) for the Conference in Bend. The Conference will be 7-9 October 2005 at the Riverhouse in Bend. They are planning to have a golf tournament on Friday afternoon. There will be trips for the spouses on Saturday. Ron Fox’s e-mail address is rhfox10@earthlink.net this e-mail address has a spam blocker and the first time you send something it needs to have MOAA in the subject line. Ron would like each chapter to appoint a point of contact for the Conference. He would also like a schedule of each chapters meetings so Central Oregon can send a representative to one of your chapter meetings to discuss the conference/convention activities with your chapter members. Chuck suggested that invitations to the Conference be sent out to each chapter.

8. Chapter Reports
Willamette Chapter, The chapter has 140 members counting Auxiliary members. We normally have about 30 members with the exception of our Steak Fry in September and our Christmas dinner. All other meetings are luncheons. At our last luncheon BG Pritt the Commanding General of the 41st Brigade was the speaker and before that we had Reserve MG Dennis Klein who talked about Korea..
Corvallis Chapter, The membership is staying about constant. The officers are the same for this year with the exception of the VP who is new.
Portland, Our last meeting was March 3rd with the Vancouver Chapter and the President of the Washington State Council of Chapters with 112 in attendance. The chapter is working on how they will participate in local Memorial Day activities. 100 letters were sent out and then a follow up phone call three weeks later, generated 14 new members in the last two months.
Central Oregon, There meetings are normally on Sunday December thru March due to weather and the fact that the older members do not like to drive after dark. Most meetings have between 55 to 80 in attendance. The Central Oregon Chapter supports the DAV van that goes from Bend to the VA hospital in Portland by furnishing drivers. Two drivers are needed each day. Eugene and Salem have needs for drivers. The Bend van leaves a 6:00 am and stops in Redmond, Terrebonne, Madras, and the reservation. The leave the VA Hospital at 2:00 pm for the return trip to Bend.
Our Chapter Board meetings are held at the National Guard Armory. We are involved in Caring for Troops, where we send care packages to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Check out the web site www.caringfortroops.com.
Emerald Empire, The Veterans Memorial Building, had glass cases in the front of the building with nothing in them. So our chapter ask if they could put items in the cases and now they have a MOAA display, and now they have added glass shelves that the chapter will fill. The chapter has used free advertising in the local papers and we have had 5 requests for membership applications. Steve Watkins is our new Newsletter Editor and is doing an outstanding job. The chapter is involved in troop support initiatives. Gathered donations of school supplies for Iraqi school children, worked with family support coordinators, and existing support organizations.
This month we are going to honor a junior and senior enlisted outstanding members of the 4 local reserve units.
The recruiting is going well and the health of the membership is in good shape in terms of what we do and how we do it.
